Spring at Woodhouse Farms

I’ve been sharing a lot of farm updates on my Facebook Page, but for those who don’t follow me (you should!), I would love to share with you how things are going on this little urban farm of mine!

First, a short video. This was actually shot in August 2012, but it’s a perfect example of the typical sunny day in my backyard. Cupcake the pig is notorious for digging holes in the yard and bathing in the mud to cool off (oh, to be a pig!). And, of course, the ducks thoroughly enjoy the pond and garden.

The spring brings about such beautiful blooms from the bajillions of trees that I’ve planted over the years (my back yard was a blank canvas when I moved in).

cripA Weeping Wedbud, Japanese Magnolia,  Weeping Cherry, and an adorable dirty pig nose 🙂

fruitThe blooms on my fruiting trees and bushes are always impressive. I have my fingers crossed that my apple tree (which is grafted so that it has 5 different types of apples on one tree) sticks around and makes it back to full health. Unfortunately, my darling little pig dug it up over the winter and ate most of the roots! It still managed to flower, but I think it will spend its energy recreating its roots rather than fruiting this year 🙁

gerdenGiven just 2 week’s time, the peaches and nectarines have dropped their buds and really started pushing out fruit. The figs and grapes seem to have popped up out of nowhere, and the strawberries are looking like they’ll be bountiful.

What’s growing in your garden?
